Questioning Faith for the first time…

11 10 2007

BibleI have now been to my first proper Cell group meeting. The group which is made up mostly of women (which proportionately is probably representative of the church) covered James 2. I knew I would enjoy going to a Cell group because it allows you to question the unquestionable. If you read Numbers, you are lead to believe that you must never ever question anything related to God, but although I mean no harm, questions should be asked to clear up your perception of an incident, surely?

A good example of this is when we were asked to describe a typical ‘poor’ person in Newquay. Straight away, including me, most of us thought about poverty and those who may not be able to afford the odd luxury in life. But this is not the required answer! The poor people in Newquay are the ones who do not belong to the NCC or for that matter any Christian church in Newquay. It just goes to show that you should not always read things at face value!

Our first Christian lunch invite

8 10 2007

We have now been going to the NCC for about three months and yesterday we got our first invite to lunch from a fellow Christian family. As a non-Christian you read about strange things happening in Christian circles; Christians socialising and relaxing in each others presence without a bible to hand or bible bashing each other. Well I can confirm, it’s true! With the three children in tow, we headed over to David and Elizabeth’s for lunch (after church of course) and went to a normal house, with normal people and even had a slightly better than normal meal. But surely a Christian family is not normal, wrong; here is a prime example of a great family living a great life in a great area and I hope, thinking life is great.

In fact the only sign of religion that was visible was a copy of the bible in the ‘quiet room’ and without doubt a house and garden filled with the Holy Spirit, and boy did it feel good to be in a like-minded house.

God Bless David, Elizabeth and the three kiddies for making us feel most welcome!

Weblog Awards – get voting

Weblog awards

Thought I would enter this blog to the forthcoming weblog awards to see if anyone out there is reading about me. Out of all the categories, there was only one obvious choice – the Religion award.

We might be a new blog, but we are packed with character, love and a sprinkling of modern day life that might appeal to a few of you out there. Of course we are not quite the size of sites such as Matt Cutts or Daily Kos but hay we all start somewhere. And with the help of the Holy Spirit I will continue to shout about living life as a Christian in the 21 century at ever opportunity. That’s my acceptance speech written so please click here to vote. Please!

Religion in business

3 10 2007

church crossI was in church on Sunday speaking to Martin about working in a pressure cooker job while being a Christian. It can by all accounts be hard to remember your ethics when you know that your creditability is on the line Monday to Friday. If you lose face, you lose respect!

It doesn’t stop you needing the Holy Spirit in your daily life, but how can I be cut throat Monday to Friday, but a placid human at weekends! This is very much a million dollar question because the bible teaches us to love our enemy and not to live for money. But with a family to support, if I was to just give up my job one day and live off the land, who would pay the rent, council taxes, water, electricity etc etc. Now my garden isn’t big enough to grow acres of crops, if it was then maybe that would be my next challenge, but in today’s society, is it possible to actually live like this or are there just too many obstacles (mostly financial) in our way?

Christianity goes mobile

2 10 2007

Ecumen logoDuring my daily trawl through the under-rated BBC website, I found an article about a new website which has just been launched called Ecumen. This is a website designed for the younger demographic audience. What a great idea!

The site aims to sell products such as ringtones and wallpapers, but at a moderate cost. What I do like about the site though is the opportunity to download the bible to your mobile phone. Not done this yet, but if it works then I am sure it will catch on. The opportunity to browse, find and read scriptures on the move seems a canny idea.
